Feeling far from God

Distance from God is more often felt than actual. Scripture has language for the feeling, which suggests it is common and not a disqualification. The Psalms in particular are written by people talking to a God who seems, that day, to be somewhere else.

Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

Psalm 42:11KJV

The psalmist is arguing with himself, out loud, in the middle of it.
