Help people look toward Christ, not at an app.

Most software that competes for your attention is designed to keep it. The measure of success is time spent, sessions per day, and how reliably somebody comes back. Those are reasonable things for a business to want and poor things for a devotional app to optimise.

So before anything is built here, it is measured against one sentence:

Do not help people spend more time looking at an app. Help them spend more time looking toward Christ.

That sentence lives in the product’s own configuration file, so it is read whenever somebody opens the constants that shape the application. It is not a slogan kept on a marketing page.

A principle that never costs anything is decoration. This one has removed features that would otherwise have been obvious:

• No endless feed. Nothing loads as you scroll. Every screen is meant to be finished and closed.
• No streaks. Journey 2 Christ counts days with God, and deliberately does not break them, rank them or warn you about losing one. Missing a Tuesday is not a failure the software has an opinion about.
• No leaderboard, and nothing social. There is no way to compare yourself with anybody, because there is nobody else in here.
• No pressure to stay longer. Reminders invite; they never guilt. The approved wording is checked automatically against a list of phrases that are not allowed to appear in one.

One minute is a real unit of time with God, not a consolation prize for people who cannot manage thirty. One Minute With God is a short passage, a simple thought and a moment to pray, and it is complete in itself.

From there the application opens outward rather than upward. Redeem 5 is five intentional minutes. A journey is a sequence of steps taken at whatever pace suits the week you are actually having. The Bible is the whole King James Version, waiting whenever you have longer.

One minute can become five. Five can become a habit. A habit can become a journey. None of that is engineered; it is simply what happens when the door is easy to walk through.

Prayer is the most private thing anybody does in this application, so it is treated that way. There is no prayer wall, no sharing and no feed. Your prayers, notes and reflections belong to you, and the database itself restricts every one of them to the account that wrote it.

We do not record which book of the Bible you open, or which sensitive topic you read about, because a list of those would describe your inner life rather than tell us whether the software works. Read the privacy policy for exactly what is and is not kept.
